Although Thailand is considered a middle income country and has taken many great strides forward in the last twenty years, stark inequalities still exist.

Many groups in Thailand have been left behind, particularly ethnic minorities, migrants, refugees and the extremely poor.  Their children are often severely disadvantaged and face problems such  malnutrition, exclusion from education, trafficking, child labour and other forms of exploitation.

The number of people infected with HIV/AIDS is a serious problem due to the large-scale sex industry.  This has a devasting effect on the lives of children.  UNICEF estimates that over 250,000 children have been orphaned by AIDS and that number is increasing every year.

Thousands of children have been, and continue to be, sold or lured into the sex industry.  Children from families living in extreme poverty are at an increased risk of entering dangerous or illegal fields of work in order to survive.

Riverview Children's Foundation is partnering with two projects in Thailand to help prevent and alleviate the suffering of children.
