Bali is a beautiful island with a rich and unique culture. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, attracting visitors from across the globe.
However, behind the glossy façade of the tourism industry most of its three million people are very poor. They survive on the edges of the tourist industry or are subsistence farmers, mostly in rice fields. Consequently, many families are too poor to properly clothe, feed and educate their children leaving them vulnerable to prostitution, drugs and crime.
