The Foundation partners with the Sunshine Centre for Children in Cambodia, which caters for up to 90 children, aged three to 17 years. The families of these children are among the poorest in Cambodia, earning irregular incomes of less than US$2.50 a day. Many children in Cambodia are compelled to work regardless of their young age, some roaming the busy, dirty streets, collecting recyclable materials to sell for meagre amounts. Others work as shoe polishers or as peddlers selling food and postcards to tourists. These hazardous conditions not only expose them to exploitation and abuse, but also deny them the simple pleasures of childhood and education. Through the Sunshine Centre, these children are enrolled into public school for the first time in their lives. The Sunshine Centre is a safe, caring and stimulating environment, providing before and after-school care, two healthy meals per day, government school lessons, school uniforms and school books, medical and dental care, and hygienic bathing facilities. The Sunshine Centre regularly visits the children's parents and is aiming to help them become increasingly self-reliant. Riverview Children's Foundation is providing financial support for the daily meals the children receive. www.sunshinecentrecambodia.org
